Look, we're not gonna lie - starting Emberfall Realm wasn't about following some corporate blueprint. Back in 2012, a few of us got tired of seeing Vancouver's skyline filled with cookie-cutter boxes that ignored the stunning natural environment we're lucky enough to call home.
We figured there had to be a better way, y'know? Buildings don't have to be enemies of nature. After years working at big firms where sustainability was just a checkbox, we wanted to actually walk the walk. So here we are.
What drives us isn't some textbook definition of green architecture - it's honestly simpler than that. We believe every building should feel like it belongs. Like it's been there forever, part of the landscape rather than fighting against it. Whether it's a family home in Kitsilano or a commercial space downtown, we're obsessed with making spaces that breathe, conserve energy naturally, and honestly just feel right.
Our team's kinda eclectic - we've got folks who've worked on everything from passive house retrofits to LEED Platinum commercial towers. But what binds us? We all geek out over the same stuff: natural light paths, thermal mass, locally-sourced materials, and designing spaces where people actually want to spend time.
Real people who actually care about what they're building
Principal Architect & Founder
Been in this game for 18 years, mostly spent figuring out how to make buildings that don't destroy the planet. Started Emberfall because I was sick of compromising on sustainability. These days, I'm usually sketching residential designs or arguing with suppliers about reclaimed timber.
Commercial Design Lead
Came to Vancouver from Toronto about eight years back. Spent way too long designing soulless office buildings before joining the crew here. Now I focus on commercial spaces that actually inspire people instead of draining their energy. Bit of a lighting nerd, won't apologize for it.
Sustainability Specialist
Got my start with passive house design in Sweden before moving here five years ago. I'm the one who obsesses over R-values and thermal bridging while everyone else is picking paint colors. Also handle most of our green certification projects - yeah, the paperwork's tedious, but it's worth it.
Interior Space Planner
Interior architecture's where it's at for me. Spent years making sure spaces flow properly and actually make sense for the people using 'em. Can't stand wasted square footage or awkward hallways. Probably spend too much time thinking about furniture placement, but hey, that's the job.
Renovation & Heritage Projects
Heritage restoration's my jam. There's something special about bringing old buildings back to life while sneaking in modern efficiency upgrades. Vancouver's got such cool older buildings that deserve better than being torn down. I try to give them that second chance they deserve.
Project Coordinator
I'm the guy who makes sure everything actually gets built the way it's supposed to. Coordination between architects, engineers, contractors - it's a lot of herding cats, honestly. But someone's gotta do it, and I've gotten pretty good at keeping projects on track without losing my mind.
Gonna be straight with you - our process isn't revolutionary. We just try to keep things real and collaborative from day one.
First off, we listen. Like, actually listen. Too many architects show up with preconceived notions about what a client needs. We'd rather spend hours understanding your lifestyle, your quirks, how you actually live or work in a space. Then we design around that.
We're big on transparency too. Budget concerns? Let's talk about it upfront. Timeline worries? We'll work through them together. No surprises, no BS. You'll know what's happening at every stage, and yeah, we actually return emails.
Every project gets the full team's eyes on it - we do these informal reviews where everyone pitches in ideas. Sometimes the best solution comes from someone who's not even the lead on your project. That's just how we roll.
